857 Habits of Highly Irritating People

"Whining... also known as “Grousing”

Today, like every other day in your life, you will probably ask someone, “How are you doing?”

You may or may not sincerely want to KNOW the truth about how she or he may actually be doing, but out of politeness, or habit, you did ask the question, thereby opening yourself up to some kind of answer. A common answer I get all the time is, “Can’t complain.”

To which I often reply, “Sure you can. I’ve heard you do it before.”

To which he or she would often retort, “Yeah, but it won’t do any good.”

As you can plainly see, this is a bunch of nonsense. The truth is, complaining does help. If it didn’t many people would stop. And as you also know, most people won’t stop complaining. In fact, normally this person to whom you wished a cheery greeting will most likely go ahead now and begin whining about something else. This is very irritating. And it’s likely to continue forever because it pays so well.

Let’s take for example, the weather, which is one of the favorite grousing topics. Many people grouse about the weather. I think we should give everybody a voting machine and let them vote for the exact kind of weather they want. In fact, technology may soon get to the point that we can control the weather. All the people screaming about global warming want us all to change the way we live to alter the weather, so even though some of these people aren’t the sharpest tools in the sheds, they must believe it’s possible. Anyway, since it is possible that some day someone may be able to control the weather, who it is that gets to control it is very important. The only fair way to decide who gets to control the weather is democratically, I believe."

I thought it was going to be a pun on the leadership book.  Liked the direction of it better though. We must know some of the same irritating people.
